Meet your transfer at Julius Nyerere International Airport and settle into your Dar es Salaam hotel. Rest, meet or speak with the safari team and prepare for the following morning’s road journey. Arrival day is reserved for the city transfer rather than a drive straight to the park.
Leave the city after breakfast and drive towards Mikumi with rest stops en route. Traffic and road conditions determine arrival time. If practical, enjoy an introductory game drive after park entry; otherwise settle into the lodge and begin wildlife viewing the next morning. This is a significant transfer day.
Spend the morning on a Mikumi game drive before travelling to your base near Udzungwa. Look for wildlife across the accessible plains and enjoy lunch before the road transfer. Arrive in time to prepare for tomorrow’s walk. Your guide will check trail access and the appropriate walking option with local park staff.
Explore Udzungwa on foot with an authorised guide. The Sanje trail is a proposed option, subject to park advice, weather and the group’s ability; a shorter walk can be agreed where available. Expect uneven ground, humid forest conditions and a steady climb. Return to your foothills accommodation for a second night.
Depart early for the road journey towards Ruaha, travelling through the Iringa area with breaks along the way. This is primarily a transfer day, and a game drive should not be assumed. Settle into the selected lodge or camp and review the next day’s wildlife programme with your guide.
Explore Ruaha on guided game drives shaped by current animal movements and accessible roads. Spend time watching behaviour, identifying birds and enjoying the park’s open spaces. A picnic outing or split morning and afternoon drives will be chosen to suit the camp location, weather and your preferred pace.
Transfer to the appropriate Ruaha airstrip for your confirmed flight to Dar es Salaam. A short morning drive is possible only if the flight schedule allows. Continue to your city hotel for a final overnight stay, providing a buffer before the international departure rather than a tight same-day connection.
